Heat pump vs gas furnace, which heating and cooling system is better for a Phoenix home?
Most Phoenix area homes use a heat pump, which heats and cools in one system, or a traditional air conditioner paired with a gas furnace. Heat pumps are efficient in mild climates and eliminate the need for gas service, which can lower utility costs. They work well in Phoenix since heating demand is light. Gas furnaces heat faster on cold mornings and some buyers prefer them for that reason, but you will pay for both gas and electric service year round. Both systems cool the same way with a compressor and coil. Operating cost depends on your utility provider, APS or SRP, and your rate plan. Either option is common and effective in the desert.
