How often should I service my AC and change filters in the desert?

In the Phoenix desert, air conditioning runs heavily from May through September and often into October, so regular maintenance is essential. Most HVAC professionals recommend servicing your system twice a year, typically in spring before cooling season and in fall before heating season. Change your air filters every 30 to 90 days depending on the filter type, whether you have pets, and dust levels in your area. During peak summer some homeowners check filters monthly. Regular service includes cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, and inspecting electrical connections. Keeping up with maintenance improves efficiency, extends the life of your system, and reduces the chance of a breakdown during extreme heat when repair calls are highest.
