Does Arizona have a property tax freeze or exemption for seniors?
Arizona has a Senior Property Valuation Protection Option, often called the senior freeze. For homeowners who qualify, it freezes the taxable value of a primary residence, which is not the same as freezing the tax bill, because tax rates can still change. Qualification is based on age, generally at least one owner 65 or older, how long the home has been your primary residence, and household income under a limit that is updated periodically. You apply through the County Assessor and must renew to keep it. Arizona also has other limited relief programs for certain homeowners. The Maricopa County Assessor's office publishes the current income limits, forms and deadlines, and can confirm whether you qualify.
