Which Phoenix areas are walkable or close to light rail?
The Valley Metro light rail runs through central Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa. Walkable neighborhoods with light rail access include downtown Phoenix, midtown Phoenix, Tempe near Mill Avenue and ASU, and parts of downtown Mesa. These areas tend to have higher density, mixed use development, and more sidewalks. Walkability varies block by block, so visiting in person helps. Outside the light rail corridor, most of the Phoenix metro area is car dependent. You can use online walk score tools to compare neighborhoods, and visiting at different times of day will show you how accessible services, transit, and amenities really are on foot.
